15%
10%
CarTransitWalkBike

Describe the chart in detail.

Sample answer

This bar chart compares how people in a city get to work. Driving is clearly the most common option, at about 45 percent, followed by public transit at around 30 percent. Walking and cycling are much less popular, at 15 and 10 percent. Overall, most residents still depend on cars.

Says what the chart is about, gives the largest and smallest values with numbers, and ends with one overall point.

What the score looks at

  • Speaking · content, pronunciation, oral fluency

Content

The main features of the image and how they compare.

Pronunciation

Words a listener can understand easily, with natural stress.

Oral fluency

A smooth, even pace without long pauses or restarts.

Common mistakes

  • Reading out every number instead of picking out the main pattern.
  • Leaving no time for an overall conclusion.
  • Long pauses while searching for a precise word; a simpler word keeps you fluent.
