How to Check CELPIP Results: Timing and Your Score Report

Oct 7, 2026

Your CELPIP results appear in your online CELPIP Account usually within 2–4 business days after your test (some CELPIP pages say 3–4), and the Official Score Report is a PDF you download there. Once your levels are posted, you log in, download the PDF and keep it for your application. Paper reports are no longer sent.

This guide covers how long it takes to get CELPIP results, how to check them, what the CELPIP score report shows, how long the report stays available, and how CELPIP re-evaluation works if a level is lower than you expected. Each rule links to the official CELPIP or IRCC page it comes from.

How long does it take to get CELPIP results?

CELPIP's test results page says results are available online in your CELPIP Account "in 2-4 business days after your test date". The CELPIP Test Taker Guidebook (July 2026) and CELPIP's Australian visa page give the same 2–4 business day window. A few other CELPIP pages say 3–4 business days, so it is safer to plan around the longer figure.

Because the window is counted in business days, weekends do not count. A test written late in the week will usually take longer in calendar days than one written on a Monday.

If you have an immigration deadline, build in a few extra days. The release window is what CELPIP describes as usual, so your own wait may be a little shorter or longer.

How to check your CELPIP result, step by step

Checking a CELPIP result happens entirely online. Here is the process, based on what CELPIP's results page describes:

  1. Wait for the release window. Results usually appear 2–4 business days after your test date (some CELPIP pages say 3–4).
  2. Log in to your CELPIP Account. This is the online account where CELPIP posts your results.
  3. Open your test results. Your levels for each skill you took will be shown there once they are released.
  4. Download your Official Score Report as a PDF. This file is your official record of the result.
  5. Save the file somewhere safe. Keep a copy on your computer and a backup, so you are not relying on a single download when you start an application.
  6. Check each skill against your target. Compare every level with the minimum for the program you are applying to (see the sections below).

If your results are later than expected, check the results page or contact CELPIP before booking anything new.

The CELPIP score report comes as a PDF

CELPIP's results page states that "hard copy score reports have been discontinued". The Official Score Report is a PDF that you download from your CELPIP Account.

You may still see older information about reports arriving by mail. Even the July 2026 Guidebook still mentions mailed reports. When the two disagree, follow the results page: plan on the PDF and do not wait for an envelope.

What the CELPIP score report shows

The CELPIP score report gives you a level for each skill you were tested on. For CELPIP-General, that is listening, reading, writing and speaking. CELPIP-General LS covers listening and speaking only, so those are the two levels you will see if you took that test.

There is one level per skill, and they are often different from each other. That matters because requirements are also set skill by skill.

CELPIP levels match CLB levels

According to CELPIP's results page, CELPIP levels 12 down to 3 match CLB 12 down to 3 one-to-one. A CELPIP 9 in listening is CLB 9 in listening. IRCC's language test equivalency page uses the same one-to-one match for CELPIP-General levels 4 to 10 and above.

A few results on the scale are not simple numbers:

ResultWhat it means
Levels 3–12Equal to CLB 3–12 for that skill
Level 2Equal to CLB 1–2
1 or 0Insufficient information to assign a level
MThe lowest raw score band
NANot administered

If you want to understand how a level was reached, our guide to how the CELPIP score is calculated explains computer scoring for listening and reading and rater scoring for writing and speaking. The CELPIP score chart shows every level next to CLB and IELTS.

How long CELPIP results stay available and valid

There are two different questions here: how long you can view and download your report, and how long an organization will accept it.

UseRuleSource
Viewing your reportCELPIP keeps your score report available for 5 yearsCELPIP results page
Canadian PR (Express Entry)Results must be less than 2 years old when you complete your Express Entry profile and when you submit your PR applicationIRCC language tests
Canadian citizenshipResults are accepted even if they have expiredIRCC citizenship language proof
Australian visas2 years, according to CELPIP's Australia page; confirm on the visa pageCELPIP Australia, Home Affairs

CELPIP's own pages describe validity in different ways, so go by the rule of whoever receives your results. For Canadian PR that is IRCC's 2-year rule, which applies at two separate points in the process. A result that is 22 months old when you create your profile may be too old by the time you submit your application.

Our guide on how long CELPIP is valid goes through these rules in more detail.

CELPIP re-evaluation: how it works

If a level is lower than you expected, you can ask CELPIP to re-evaluate it. CELPIP's results page sets out these rules:

  • Deadline: requests must be made within 6 months.
  • Limit: one re-evaluation per test component.
  • Timing: results of a re-evaluation take about 1–2 weeks.
  • Refund: if your level changes, the re-evaluation fee is refunded.
  • Fee: we could not find the re-evaluation fee published on the CELPIP pages we checked, so confirm it with CELPIP before you apply.

Which components are worth re-evaluating?

Listening and reading are scored entirely by computer, with each answer marked right or wrong and a blank answer counted as incorrect. CELPIP's results page notes that because these components are computer rated, they are unlikely to change on re-evaluation.

Writing and speaking are different. They are scored by people: 4 to 6 raters for writing and 3 to 5 raters for speaking, with a benchmark rater brought in when raters disagree. If you are going to request a re-evaluation, writing or speaking is where a change is more plausible than computer-scored listening or reading.

Plan around your deadlines

A re-evaluation adds about 1–2 weeks on top of the original release window. If you are close to an Express Entry date, factor that time in before you submit anything based on the current levels.

What to do next with your CELPIP results

Once you have downloaded your score report, compare each skill with the requirement you are working toward.

Express Entry and permanent residence

IRCC accepts CELPIP-General for Express Entry. CELPIP-General LS is not on the Express Entry list, so an LS report cannot be used there. The main minimums on IRCC's language test page are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker: CLB 7 in all four abilities (IRCC).
  • Canadian Experience Class: CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 jobs, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 jobs.
  • Federal Skilled Trades: CLB 5 in speaking and listening, CLB 4 in reading and writing.

Because CELPIP levels equal CLB levels, you can read these straight off your report. Higher levels also earn more CRS points. Our guide to CELPIP and CLB for Express Entry covers the program requirements and points in detail.

Canadian citizenship

If you are aged 18 to 54, IRCC asks for CLB 4 or higher in speaking and listening. With a CELPIP-General test taken on or after 1 April 2014, that means level 4 or higher in listening and speaking (IRCC). CELPIP-General LS is also accepted for citizenship, and expired results are fine. See CELPIP score for citizenship for the full picture.

If a level falls short

Start with the skill furthest below your target. Writing and Speaking are more likely to change on re-evaluation than computer-scored Listening and Reading; otherwise, the route is a retake. CELPIP does not allow more than one test session within 5 calendar days, so plan your next date with your preparation time in mind. Timed practice with PrepAmigo's mock tests can help you check your progress on the weak skill before you book again.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get CELPIP results?

CELPIP says results are usually posted to your online CELPIP Account within 2–4 business days after your test date. Some CELPIP pages say 3–4 business days, so plan around 4 to be safe.

How long for CELPIP results if I test on a Friday?

The window is counted in business days, so weekends do not count. A Friday test will usually take longer in calendar days than a test earlier in the week.

How do I check my CELPIP result?

Log in to your online CELPIP Account once results are released, open your test results and download your Official Score Report as a PDF. Save a copy and a backup.

Will CELPIP mail me a paper score report?

No. CELPIP's results page says hard copy score reports have been discontinued. Some older material, including the July 2026 Guidebook, still mentions mail, but the results page is the one to follow.

Does the CELPIP score report show my CLB level?

The report shows a CELPIP level for each skill. For levels 3 to 12, the CELPIP level number is the same as the CLB level, so a CELPIP 7 in writing is CLB 7 in writing.

How long can I view my CELPIP results?

CELPIP keeps your score report available for 5 years. That is separate from IRCC's rule for Express Entry, which needs results less than 2 years old when you create your profile and when you submit your PR application.

How long does CELPIP re-evaluation take?

A CELPIP re-evaluation takes about 1 to 2 weeks. You can request one per test component within 6 months, and the fee is refunded if your level changes.

Is it worth re-evaluating CELPIP listening or reading?

It rarely changes the result. Listening and reading are scored by computer, so CELPIP says they are unlikely to change. Writing and speaking are scored by several raters, so a change is more plausible there.

How much does CELPIP re-evaluation cost?

We could not find the re-evaluation fee published on the CELPIP pages we checked. Confirm the current fee with CELPIP before you request one.
